Addis Ababa public library is a public institution established in 1972. The library has undergone several organizational changes. By now the library is administered by the Addis Ababa city Government Culture and Tourism Bureau.

The Addis Ababa public library is situated around sidist kilo. The library is not the purpose built building. It has different rooms for Reading and Technical services.
The library has 25000 books Journals and newspapers. It provides access to knowledge and Information through a range of resources and services, and is equally available to all members of the community.

Ninety percent of the users are students of high school, college and university.
The other users of the library are employees, pensioners     , house wives….
The Addis Ababa public library is serving the whole weekend 12hours  each day. It gives:-

• Loan of books
• Provision of books and other materials for use in the library.
• Reference service

For the last thirty eight (38) years the achievement of the library are:-

• On certain amount it has developed reading culture.
• It has created a better opportunity for those readers who can't afford to buy reading materials and who have no place for study and reading.
• Specially youths pass their leisure time in reading.
• We have satisfied our readers by providing necessary materials.
